Jenny Morales 2/07/15 Crossing the Borderlands of Sexuality and Gender. The film that I decided to watch was a documentary by Gabriel Baur named Venus Boyz. This documentary film serves as a critique of gender and sex and how it is perceived in New York, London, and Zurich, but ultimately the world. In this documentary the world of Drag Kings is presented to its viewers. Drag Kings are mostly women performers who dress in male clothing in order to personify gender stereotypes. Normally performing as exaggerated male characters whose routine may consist of dancing and singing, these characters in the end, become political activists who break the boundaries that society has set on every individual’s sexuality and gender†¦show more content†¦We see it again when Dred decides to walk time square hand in hand with a Queen Bee Luscious, a drag queen. In the background we hear a passerby say a statement referring to God. Viewing this documentary we realize that cross dressing, as a man, is not as acceptable as many would think. Not j ust crossing dressing in generally but even not embodying how females should look is deemed as being deviant. Society has this spectrum that every individual as soon as they are born is classified into groups. There are only two categories. On one end you have the masculine males and on the other the girly women. There is no in between. Even though there are many people who fall into these middle categories. This is reinforced through media as we see both men and women trying to conform into their assigned categories. What Drag Kings do is try to break this concept as it is poisonous to women and men who don’t fit in and suffer trying to conform to the social roles placed on them. For example, let’s look at hair. In the documentary we see some females who decided to shave their head hair. Angela says â€Å"that female sexuality for many men, not all but many, is linked strongly with hair. If you shave it, it means that you are denying your female sexuality†. It is not just simply shaving your head that is the reason that you are making a statement. Presidential Leadership Political leadership is the most wanted and at the same time most feared concept in U.S. political system. It is a major part of modern presidency, and perhaps the hardest thing for a president to achieve. There are several reasons political leadership is hard for a president to achieve. For one, founding fathers feared concentrated powers thus they established the system of checks and balances. Congress challenges almost everything a president attempts to accomplish. Secondly, the American people do not want concentrated power, and they want to get their point across, so they organize into interest groups. To demonstrate importance of public approval rating one can look at the recent events surrounding Bill Clinton. While he was the in office, the economy was booming, unemployment was under control and foreign policy seemed to be working, so naturally Clinton was in good shape as far as his ratings were concerned. When the Monica scandal broke out and the president was in danger of being impeached, it was his good public approval ratings that has helped him stay in the office. Coming from Thailand it has its roots from many ancient forms of Asian martial arts also similar to the style of kick boxing and strike force.
